Madhya Pradesh is a state located in the centre of India and is one of the highly
populated states in the country. Though the development of the state has remained
challenged due the high population of tribal communities, it is developing at a
fast pace in the spheres of tourism and education. More than eight premier institutes
of National Importance is situated in Madhya Pradesh providing facilities of higher
education to the students of the state including the AIIMS, IIT, IIM and the NIT
Besides these premier institutions, there are many Universities in Madhya Pradesh
that cater to the demands of higher education and professional education in the
state with more than 500 colleges in Madhya Pradesh functioning under these Universities
in Madhya Pradesh.
There are two Central Universities in Madhya Pradesh and both are General Universities.
One of the Central Universities in Madhya Pradesh offers Distance Education facility.
The other is a Tribal University that offers subjects like Tribal culture, literature
and art including folk art besides the general disciplines.
There are about sixteen State Universities in Madhya Pradesh of which eight are
General Universities. Two State Universities in Madhya Pradesh each are dedicated
to the study of Agriculture and Veterinary Science respectively and their related
subjects. The others include:
- A university for the study of Sanskrit language and literature
- A university of law is situated in Madhya Pradesh and all the law colleges across
the state are affiliated with it. Besides LLB and LLM, a number of other courses
related to the law and legal studies are conducted in these law colleges.
- There is a technical University in Madhya Pradesh. All the engineering colleges,
polytechnics and other institutes imparting technical education in the state are
affiliated with the University.
Besides these central and State Universities in Madhya Pradesh there are the Deemed
Universities in Madhya Pradesh and a Private University in Madhya Pradesh.
