What is Krishna Janmashtami?

Krishna Janmashtami is the festival of Hindu which is celebrating on the birth of Lord Krishna which is an avatar of Lord Vishnu. This day is celebrated on the 8th day of the Krishna paksha month according to Hindu calendar. This festival is always celebrated in the month of August and September.

There are many legends and stories related to Lord Krishna, which is avatar of Lord Vishnu and one of the most important god of Hindu. It is also believed that Lord Krishna has taken birth for killing Kansa along with other demons. History is that the people of Mathura has been suffering under the rule of Kansa which has put his own father into the prison and become himself as King. He was also declared by heavenly voice that he would be killed by one of his sister child Devaki. He has done all his efforts to save his life but in the end Kansa was killed by the Lord Krishna.

How is Krishna Janmashtami celebrated?

On this great day Lord Krishna birth is celebrated and all the major celebration took place at midnight. This festival is celebrated with all rituals and customs in some parts of India, especially in Mathura Vrindavan where lord Krishna used to live. Follower used to keep fast on this special day and the celebration will commence from midnight, when the birth of Lord Krishna take place. People used to do hymns along with bhajhan part. For Prasad mixture of honey, ghee, oil along with gangajal is prepared which is known as Panchamrit. This mixture is distributed as Prasad to other devotees as sweets. Some people used to break their fast by eating this Prasad only at midnight when the lord Krishna birth has taken place.
