Andaman and Nicobar Islands is an important Union Territory in India and are made up of a group of islands. Its flora and fauna is significant to the country from its commercial point of view.
There are many Colleges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands that contribute to the island’s presence on the educational map of India. A number of training institutes, B.Ed. Colleges, Polytechnic colleges and government Colleges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands provide higher education in the islands.
The History of the Higher Education in the Islands:
The higher education institutions like the colleges were initially affiliated to the Rangoon University but with the division of Burma and India the higher education in the Union Territory came under Calcutta University. Therefore, all the Colleges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are now affiliated to the Calcutta University.
Some of the colleges for higher education in Andaman and Nicobar Islands:
- There is an Agricultural College in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The college offers many disciplines for students seeking admission to the Agricultural University. Some of courses include Social Science, Forestry, Field Crops, Horticulture and Fisheries and Animal Science.
- There are two Polytechnic Colleges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and are both are under the affiliation of the Maharashtra SBTE and is approved by the Central Governed All India council for Technical Education (AICTE). The Government Polytechnic is one of the oldest Colleges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and has a total capacity of seats are 200. Both the Colleges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands offer major engineering as well as technology courses which also includes courses like Marine engineering, Electronics and Commercial Engineering, Refrigeration and AC engineering and Hotel management.
- The Industrial Training Institute is another of those Colleges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands that provide training for skilled workers and teacher training programs.
- A newly established college for nursing is also available in the island.
