NIT Colleges in India


Earlier known as REC or Regional Engineering Colleges, the NIT or the National Institute of Technology was shifted from being under their respective State Governments to being an autonomous body. There are almost thirty such NIT Colleges in India and they are located in most major states of India. It was in during the period of Jawaharlal Nehru as Prime Minister, that the first 14 NIT Colleges in India were established to further the education facilities for science and technology. The main concept behind the inception and changeover of the NIT Colleges in India was to promote national integrity and bring about unity in the diversity of India. The NIT Colleges in India were declared as Institutes of National Importance in the year 2007. All the NIT Colleges in India are controlled and funded by the Central Government.

Almost in every field of engineering and technology there are multiple courses conducted in the NIT Colleges in India. The 4-year Undergraduate course leading to the B.Tech degree is much sought after by the students of India. Besides the Engineering divisions, there is the technology sectors that have been established in the NIT Colleges in India after the boom in the IT sector came about.

Admission & Eligibility NIT Colleges:

The JEE or the Joint Entrance Examination is conducted for students seeking admission to these NIT Colleges in India. The JEE is divided into two sections and the JEE-Main needs to be cleared to be eligible to write the JEE-Advanced exam. The first 15,000 students are the ones usually eligible to write the JEE-Advanced exam. Admission to the NIT Colleges in India is based on the scores of the JEE examination.

To be eligible for admission to the NIT Colleges in India, students need to pass the Higher secondary examination of the + 2 with a minimum of 50% marks and must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as their core subjects. Computer Science is mandatory for students seeking admission to B.Tech Courses in Computer Science or Information Technology in the NIT Colleges in India. The age for eligibility is between 18-23 years.
