The National Institute of Technology (NIT) of Karnataka is situated at Surathkal near Managalore. The institute was established in the year 1960. It was famous by the name Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) till 2002. The college was upgraded as National Institute of Technology in the year 2002 and is also declared as an Institute of National Importance. With the motto Work is Worship, the college has committed faculty and alumni that made the vision of the college come true.

The college offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral Programs. B.Tech., M.Tech., MCA, MBA, M.Sc., Ph.D. are major of the programs offered by the institute. The college has about fifteen departments such as Applied Mechanics and Hydraulics, Civil Engineering, Mathematical and Computational Sciences, Metallurgical and Material Engineering etc.

Admission for National Institute of Technology, Karnataka

Admissions into Bachelor Degree programs in Engineering are based on the marks scored in class 12 and on the ranks attained in JEE (Main) test in the ratio of 40% and 60% respectively. Fifty percent of the total seats are allotted to the local candidates of the state and the rest of the seats are for the students of other states. M.Tech admission is on the bases of the rank obtained in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering). MCA admissions are on the basis of the rank obtained in NIMCET. MBA admission is on the basis of CAT /MAT score, group discussion, personal interview and work experience.

The institute is occupied in 295 acres and is located at the shores of Arabian Sea. The college has its private beach as well as a light house. The campus is the residence to most of working staff of the institute. It has several civic facilities like Marketing Center, Banks, Post office, Schools, Playground, Clubs, Food court, Hospitals etc. The institute has a huge library in a three-storied building.
