Clerk’s Grade Exam


Clerks Grade Examination is conducted by Staff Selection Commission. The exam is conducted once a year to fill Group X and Y personnel in some of the Indian Government Service Departments and Offices. The notification usually commences in April where the exam is conducted in September of the year.

Clerks Grade Exam Eligibility

Minimum age of the candidate must be 18 and maximum is 25 as on 1st August of the examination year. Upper age limit is relaxed for the candidates of few categories like SC/ST. Passing in class 10 or equivalent from the recognized school or board is the academic eligibility for the exam.

Clerks Grade Exam Pattern

The selection procedure includes two parts – Written exam and Typewriting test. Candidates those who qualify in the written exam are eligible for the Typewriting exam. The qualification standards of written test are fixed by the commission.

The subjects for the written exam are General intelligence, Clerical Aptitude, English Language, Numerical Aptitude and General Awareness. Duration of the exam is 2 hrs and is objective type. Each subject carries 50 marks. Candidates are expected to qualify each of the subject.

How to Apply Clerks Grade Exam?

The candidates are to apply by sending the filled application forms to the Department of Personnel and Training of Staff Selection Commission. The blank applications are found in the notification. Notifications are published usually in the month of April in the Employment News. The applications are expected to reach before third month of May. The application must be attested with recent passport size photograph and fee related documents.

How to Prepare Clerks Grade Exam?

The exam is conducted in the standard of class 10. Thus following the high school text books is rather important.

The test includes verbal and non verbal questions besides the questions that test the perceptual accuracy and aptitude. Several publications are providing the books that could help in the preparation of these topics.

English grammar and vocabulary must be practiced. Any general English Grammar book or high school text books would help for preparation. Comprehension of passage also must be practiced.

Reading English newspaper regularly enhances English language skills as well as General Awareness.

Practicing old papers and mock tests help to understand the questioning pattern as well as improve the time management.
