About NIMCET Entrance Exam

NIMCET (NIT MCA Common Entrance Test) is an all India Entrance Examination for admission to the postgraduate Master of Computer Application (MCA) program in NITs (National Institute of Technology) all over India. The exam is open to graduates in all disciplines who have studied mathematics in the 12th Standard or equivalent.

Through careful preparation, it is easy to clear this examination and gain admission to this prestigious course, with almost 70-80% of all applicants being successful in their attempts. There are about 850+ seats for MCA spread across 12 NITs. These scores are also accepted by colleges like the CSE National Institute of technology at Calicut, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology in Bhopal, MCA Department of CSE National Institute of Technology, Jirania and the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology in Allahabad.

NIMCET scores are valid for a year.

NIMCET Entrance Exam Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduates in all disciples and institutions recognized by the HRD ministry of the Government of India are eligible to appear for MAT examinations
  • Graduate students awaiting results are also eligible to apply for the examination on submission of proof of eligibility at the time of admission or counselling.
  • The aggregate cutoff percentage is 60% or a CGPA of 6.5 for candidates in General category. The aggregate cutoff percentage is 55% or a CGPA of 6.0 for SC/ ST category.

NIMCET Entrance Exam Pattern

The 2 hour long examination and has 150 objective questions. There is 1 negative marking for each incorrect answer and 4 marks fro every correct answer. This single paper test has questions from Mathematics (50 questions), Analytical and Logical Reasoning (40 questions), Computer Awareness (10 questions) and General English (10 questions).

An OMR sheet is provided during the examination to mark the candidate’s responses.

NIMCET Entrance Exam Syllabus

Mathematics: It includes Set theory, Probability and Statistics, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Calculus, Vectors and Trigonometry. Basic mathematics and formulae need to be practiced in detail or this section.

Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning: It tests using analysis of logical situations and facts given in the passage. Questions are usually based on diagrams and charts including pie charts, graphs and so on. Mathematical puzzles also come under the scope of this section. Logical puzzles need to be solved in the logical reasoning questions.

Computer awareness: This includes computer basics (like the organization of a computer and so on) and Data Representation (including binary and hexadecimal representation, binary arithmetic, representation of characters, Boolean algebra, Venn diagrams and so on.

General English: It includes Basic English Grammar, Comprehension of passage, Vocabulary, Analogies, Antonyms, Synonyms, Word Power, Meanings of words, Punctuation, technical writing and so on. Reading newspapers, magazines and editorials will be of tremendous help in this section by improving reading comprehension and vocabulary. Understand the meaning of each paragraph. Reviewing hidden ideas and underlying points is an excellent activity for preparing yourself for this topic.

How to Apply for NIMCET Entrance Exam

Candidates must apply online through the official website. Complete the application form and Exam fees as per the examination notification. Admit card can be downloaded from the website on pre-decided dates, after application has been processed.
