About MAT Entrance Exam

MAT or Management Aptitude Test is a state level admission test conducted by the Centre for Management Services. This unit of the AIMA (All India Management Association conducts the online and offline exams 4 times every year in the months of February, May, September and December. The MAT qualifies a candidate for admission to management courses(MBA or equivalent) in various B-schools across India.

MAT Entrance Exam Eligibility Criteria

  • All candidates applying for MAT need to be above 21 years of age.
  • Graduates in all disciples and institutions recognized by the HRD ministry of the Government of India are eligible to appear for MAT examinations
  • Graduate students awaiting results are also eligible to apply for the examination.
  • There are no restrictions of percentage to appear for the MAT exams, however, different universities and management institutes specify minimum percentage of marks for applying.

How to Apply for MAT Entrance Exam

Candidates may apply online through the appropriate AIMA website. Exam fees can be paid through Debit (ATM) Card, Credit Card, Net Banking or Crossed Demand Draft favoring ‘All India Management Association. Forms can also be obtained against cash payment from AIMA, New Delhi or listed nodal centres of AIMA. Scanned photograph and signature needs to be uploaded when filling in the form complete in all aspects.

MAT Entrance Exam Pattern

The exam consists of 5 objective type papers with multiple choice answers. Each section has questions, but the time allocated for each section varies. Section 1 has questions that test for language comprehension and needs to be completed in 30 minutes. Section 2 has questions that test mathematical skills of the candidate and needs to be completed in 40 minutes. The subject of the 3rd section is Data Analysis and sufficiency. This section has 40 questions that need to be completed in a span of 35 minutes. The next section is titled Intelligence and Critical Reasoning. 30 minutes is the time allotted for solving these 40 questions. The final section deals with Indian and global environment. These 40 questions need to be answered in 15 minutes. Thus the total 20 questions in all 5 sections need to be completed in 150 minutes.

Each correct answer earns the candidate 1 mark and each incorrect answer results in a negative mark of 0.25.

MAT Entrance Exam Syllabus

The exam syllabus for MAT covers graduate level English comprehension, mathematical skills, verbal and non-verbal reasoning and general knowledge. Equal importance is given to time and knowledge and hence specific time slots are allotted for each section.

  • Language Comprehension comprises of Grammar and English vocabulary including anonyms, synonyms, analogies and jumbled sentences.
  • Mathematical Skills involves problems dealing with the number system, BODMAS percentage, work & time, profit & loss, geometric progression, permutations & combinations and height & distance.
  • Intelligence and logical Reasoning comprises Verbal & Non Verbal Reasoning, Problems on Clock, and Sitting Arrangements.
  • Data Analysis and data Sufficiency section has questions related to line charts, bar charts, histograms, pie charts, Series, table charts, matrix arrangements, family tree, sequencing coding & decoding, symbol based problems and Puzzles
  • Indian and Global Environment is based on general knowledge and current affairs.
