Career Options in Printing Technology


It is not exaggerating to say - many don’t feel the dawn unless they read the news paper. Someone may not get asleep unless they finish a book. The print media has influenced the contemporary lives in such an extent that it has become a part of the life. Competing with the advancing technology like e-book or internet information, print media is widening and stretching great opportunities to the enthusiasts.

The courses in the field are updating with the advancing technology that could provide skilled personnel to the print media. Printing technology is the combination of many skills like technical, scientific and artistic.

Courses available:

A three year Diploma course, four year Bachelor degree and two year Post Graduation degree are the major courses besides the Certificate courses. Many colleges and institutes are offering the course.

The eligibility for Diploma is passing in 10th or equivalent. The course focuses on optimization of digital photo, cost estimation, introduction of off-set printing and other basic details of packaging industry.

The eligibility for the Bachelor Degree is passing in 10 + 2 with 40% in Science and Mathematical subjects along with the score in the Entrance test. To join in IIT, qualifying Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is must. The course deals with the preparation of students for print related industries like packaging, printing, product manufacture etc.

The Post Graduation requires a Bachelor degree in the field with score in GATE. Few universities conducts separate entrance test.

Computers, Security printing, Quality Management, Electrical and Electronics – such aspects are also covered in the courses that are related to publishing that the students get ready to handle all the angles of the printing.

The eligibility for Certificate courses varies from institute to institute. They are short termed for 1 year.

Few are State Textbook Corporations, Directorate of Printing and Stationery, National Book Trust, Sahitya Academy, Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India, Publication Division of India, National Council of Educational Research etc.

Apart from these, as mentioned in the positions of jobs, teaching is also a promising choice. Those aspired to research or lectureship should qualify CSIR National Eligibility test (NET) which provides fellowship for the talented top rankers and qualifies others for lectureship.
