Interior Design is a profession full of creativity, artistic talent, business skills and technical knowledge. In previous time, it was architect’s job to complete all designing works including both exterior and interior. But now-a-days people are very specific about the layout or design of their residential and commercial places. This translates into huge requirement of Interior Designers to bridge the demand. Interior Designing aims at making the living smooth, pleasant, comfortable and aesthetically desirable. It’s a vast field and has different verticals like residential design, commercial design etc which includes decoration of walls, types of floor, lighting, choice and place of furniture etc. A lot of job seeking aspirants are considering interior design a promising career option and pursuing different courses to get employed with reputed firms like Godrej Interio, Evok, Lipika Sud, K2India etc.

Eligibility

In last few years interior designing has become very promising career. There are many institutes in India, which are running interior designing study programs. They take 10+2 students or graduates. Usually candidate under goes the entrance exam where his drawing and designing skills are being evaluated. To become an Interior Designer one can go for two to four years professional designing program from any architecture and design college. Some of the course are BFA (Bachelor in Fine Arts), B.Des.(Bachelor in interior Designing) DID( Diploma in Interior Designing) etc. Some of the reputed colleges are:

Skills Required:

Interior designing as a career belongs to those who are having artistic talent, imaginative with creative ideas, presentational skills and passionate about designing. Interior Designers need to be a good communicator, active listener and having ability to satisfy clients with Technical and Management skills. They should also able to take decision and persuade their client with confidence.

Career Prospects:

Interior Designing is a career with very wide range. There are various job opportunities in architectural firms, interior designing consultancies, retail outlets, building contractor, development authorities, hotel and resort chains etc. They have a great demand in public sector. One can also go for self employment option as a freelancer or by starting his/her own business. Other related areas are exhibition design, visual merchandising etc.

Remuneration:

Pay pack is differing due to diverse reasons. Mostly it depends on their talent, specialization and the organization they are working with. Accordingly, fresher get Rs.10000 – Rs.18000 on monthly basis and increased up to Rs.50000 – Rs.75000 including bonus. For experienced or senior designers it is no limit of lucrative packages.

These professional are in high demand nowadays. Good firms are hiring the potential candidates to exploit their talent and skills by training, workshops and other practical learning intervention to make them industry ready with required level of knowledge, skills and attitude.
