The Master of Computer Application course is a Post Graduate Degree provided by Indian Universities having a three year academic tenure. A two year Master of Computer Application Lateral Entry course is also available in select institutions.

Eligibility for Master of Computer Applications

Students aspiring to join the course are required to have any one of the following qualifications:-

MCA - 3 years Regular Course

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information Science from any recognised university.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application from a reputed university or its equivalent course.
  • Must have studied maths as a main subject in 10+2.
  • Students not having maths as main subject in 10+2 are also eligible subject to their taking an additional subject in 1st Semester (Offered by some universities).
  • Must be a graduate from any recognised/statutory university with aggregate 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA.

MCA – 2 years Lateral Entry Course – Directly admitted to the third semester.

  • Bachelor’s degree or applied science degree of three years duration in Computer Application or Computer Science or Information Technology or other computer related subjects.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application after completing 3 year degree programme.

Most Universities conduct entrance exams for intake of students to the MCA courses. Few institutions also undertake the rigorous process of group discussions and personal interviews. As the seats are limited the vetting process is very stringent especially in the premier institutions.

How to apply Master of Computer Applications Course

Most applications are available online from the official website of the respective institutions, however in some colleges/universities they have to be procured, filled and deposited in person. The fee ranges from Rs 300/- to Rs 800/- depending on the reputation of the institution and the payment deposition by credit/debit card or demand draft as the stipulated mode being adhered to by the target institution.

Name, age, gender, qualifications, contact information, copies of testimonials, photographs, etc., are to be carefully filled to avoid form rejection/disqualification of candidature. It is advisable for aspirants to first fill in a dummy form (Photocopied version) and thereafter fill in the original so as to avoid mistakes or cutting in the original form.
