Manipur is a state in the North Eastern Region of India and is one of the “seven
sister states” of the region. Being a small state and geographically challenged
as it is in the higher regions of the country, education is steadily developing
in the region. Both the Central as well as the State Government are making all efforts
to develop the education level in the state by established facilities for higher
education by establishing Universities in Manipur.
Despite the challenges, Manipur has a few institutions in the state that are of
high repute. There are just two Central Universities in Manipur and they are the
The Manipur University is very extensive as it has about 70+ colleges imparting
education in subjects ranging from Environment, Life sciences, medicine, law, management
and Humanities. The university also has a constituent college under it which is
highly reputed college for technological studies.
The Central Agricultural University
The Central Agricultural University is the university managed by the Central Government
and has a number of courses conducted by it. Besides Agriculture, the other courses
include Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Fisheries Horticulture & Forestry
Agricultural Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology and Home Science. All these
courses are conducted in different colleges situated across the length and breadth
of the state. Both undergraduate and postgraduate courses are conducted by the Universities
in Manipur and imparted through the various colleges under it.
There are many technical institutes in Manipur some managed by the Central government
like Institute Of National Importance. They are:
- The Institute of Plastic Technology
- The National institute of technology
- The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology
There is a Regional Medical College that is located in Manipur and has been functioning
under the Government of India. The college and research center offers a range of
medical and para-medical courses.
