Lakshmi Puja / Sharad Purnima Festival 2024


What is Lakshmi Puja?

Lakshmi Puja is performed at the time of Diwali festival which is also known as the festival of nights. Devotees in this festival used to keep oil lamps on the outside of house in such a belief that Laxmi will come to their house to bless him. People also had a belief that Laxmi will come to only that house which is neat and clean and also the people of that house are hard working and in reverse he will not visit that place where the people are lazy and their house are dirty.

History of Laxmi Puja

The history related to Laxmi Puja is that she was the daughter of the king which is known by the name of milky ocean. Diwali is the festival which is devoted to goddess laxmi. It is believed that on this great day goddess laxmi passes through the green field and showers her blessings on every people. This day is also known as the day of Chopada puja. The other legend related to this festival is that Parvati played dice with her husband on this day and lord Shiva commented that who so ever will gamble on this special nights will won and prosper in the coming years.

Celebration of Laxmi Puja

Laxmi puja is mainly done in Diwali which is celebrated every year in the month of October and November. This festival marks the ending of Harvest season. Laxmi puja is celebrated on diwali nights where people believe that on this great day Laxmi will come to their houses. On this great day people used to decorate their houses with oil lamps, candle and lights. On this great day people also used to put rangoli outside their houses in order to welcoming laxmi. People also used to prepare some special sweets on this day.

The puja was conducted in the evening night of diwali which is carried by singing and chanting of aarti with devotional songs. When the puja is over sweets along with Prasad is offered to the laxmi and it is distributed to other people.
