The ISI or the Indian Statistical Institutes in India has been conferred the status of an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India in 1959. It was founded by P.C. Mahalanobis in 1931. The institute had a very humble beginnings at the Presidency College Kolkata and is today one of the most prestigious institute of India.
