Reserve Bank Officers' Grade 'A' / 'B' Exam


Reserve Bank of India Officers Grade exam is conducted Reserve Bank of India Services Board. The Board has recently revised the process of recruitment of Officers. The exam is usually conducted once a year as per the required posts. The notification usually falls in October and the exam is conducted in December. RBI is governed by the Central Board and is the Major Bank of the Country that guides the other National Banks as per the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.

Why to Take the Reserve Bank of India Officers’ Grade Exam?

The exam is to recruit the officer cadre personnel in various offices of reserve Bank of India, located throughout the country. Candidates are permitted to attempt maximum for 6 times (for General category), which was 4 earlier.

Reserve Bank of India Officers’ Grade Exam Eligibility

Educational qualification: Bachelor Degree with 60% for General Category and 50% for SC/ST/PWD or equivalent from any recognized University. The same percentage is expected in 12th and 10th standard examination.

Age: Minimum age is 21 and the maximum age is 30 years. The upper age limit is relaxed for SC/ST/PWD. The upper age limit is also relaxed for M.Phil and Ph.D. Candidates i.e., 32 and 34 respectively. Candidates who have experience as an officer in any Commercial or Financial institution in Public Sector also get age relaxation.

Reserve Bank of India Officers’ Grade Exam Structure

The selection process includes two phases of examinations followed by the interview.

Phase – I is objective type. It contains General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning. The exam is for 200 marks. The duration of the exam is 2 hours. It is an online examination. Those who qualify phase-I are eligible for phase- II examination.

Phase – II examination contain three papers – English, Economics & Social issues, optional Paper (Finance & Management / Economics / Statistics). Each paper is of 100 marks and the duration of each exam is one and half an hour. Candidates must clear each of the paper. The short listed candidates from qualifiers of the exam are eligible for the interview.

How to Apply Reserve Bank of India Officers’ Grade Exam?

Candidates must submit the application form online. Read the guidelines well before attempting to fill the application. Be ready with valid email address, scanned passport size color pho and scanned signature. On entering the basic details and uploading the photo cum signature, an application number and password appears. This application number and password are helpful for further login to enter or to edit the data. A candidate is provided the facility to fill the application in 3 turns.

Fee can be paid through online or offline mode. For offline payment, e-challan has to be downloaded and printed. The fee must be deposited in any branch of mentioned banks within 2 working days from the registration date. As the fee is paid, candidate gets confirmed information through SMS or Email within two working days. Online payment can be done through any of the valid online payment modes.

How to Prepare Reserve Bank of India Officers’ Grade Exam?

  • Reading books related to Indian Economy, Sociology, Statistics/Finance Management that are mentioned in reference is rather suggestible
  • Reading English Newspapers like Economic Times and Hindu and business magazines help to improve English language knowledge as well as the knowledge of General Awareness
  • Following the reports and Researches improve the statistical or Finance Management knowledge
  • Several institutions and websites conduct mock tests, practice tests. These improve the knowledge of questioning pattern and time management. Previous exam papers also help in the same way which are available with several publications and websites.
