GIC Exam


General India Insurance recruits officers every year through GIC officers’ Exam. It is one of the largest Government of India owned Insurance Company. The examination is usually notified during the month of March and the written exam is held during the month of May.

GIC officers Exam Eligibility

Minimum age limit is 21 and maximum age limit is 30 years. Upper age limit is relaxed for few of the categories. Candidates must possess relevant graduation to the applying post. Example: Candidates applying for Audit must hold B.Com Degree and for Medical must hold MBBS etc. Candidates must check the required qualification before applying.

Candidates are allowed to apply only for one stream of choice. Computer proficiency is compulsory for all streams. Candidates must be ready to get post anywhere in India after selection.

GIC officers Exam Structure

Selection procedure includes – written test, group discussion and interview. The written exam contains three parts.

Part A is Objective type of 40 marks. The sections cover the questions on the chosen stream. Part B is Objective type of 80 marks. Test of Reasoning, Test of English Language, Test of General Awareness and Test of Numerical Ability & Computer Literacy are covered in part B. Each test carries 20 marks. Part C is Descriptive for 30 marks. This section contains Test in English Language- Essay, Precis writing and Comprehension.

The qualifiers of written examination are called for Group Discussion and Interview. Group Discussion carries 20 marks and Interview carries 30 marks. Finally selected candidates need to be found medically fit to go for probation period of one year.

How to Apply GIC officers Exam?

Candidates have to apply only through online registration system from the official website. Before applying, candidates must be ready with the valid email ID, valid mobile number, DD details and a soft copy of recent passport sized color photograph. Candidates must follow the registration steps to fill

After submitting online application, candidates must take the printout of the acknowledgement slip, put signature and send it the mentioned address with the required documents like original DD, certificates etc.

Candidates must download the admit card from the official website. It must be submitted at the examination hall.

How to prepare GIC officers Exam?

Several books are published with the topics covered in the exam with particularization of pattern. Reading newspapers and business magazines enhance the knowledge of general awareness and English language skills.

Mock Tests and Practice Tests are available with the coaching institutes and online coaching websites. These help to gain knowledge of questioning and time management, which is rather important. Few companies also provide CD’s covering the syllabus of the exam.

The subject related questions may include the questions related to the company. Following the books of graduation and gathering the general information of the company is rather useful.
