Engineering Education deals with the scientific and technological aspect of a study. The major studies of Engineering involve designing and building. Machines, structures and materials are the resources of the education. Engineering is one of the major career options of the aspirants in the recent decades.
A Bachelor degree is the minimum requirement for pursuing opportunities of Engineering. Bachelor and Master degree are the available educational qualifications.
There is less difference between the Engineering and Technology courses in today’s curriculum of studies. Yet, the basic difference between these programs is that engineering courses deals with theoretical and technology courses deals with the practical.
The stream offers several branches of studies that one can make a prospective path in the interested area. Mechanical, Chemical, Instrumentation, Production, Design, Computer, Aeronautical are few of the branches of engineering courses. Many courses include theoretical and practical examinations as well as project work. This allows one to gather the comprehensive knowledge of the subject.
There are several reasons to take up engineering courses. Few of them are:
- Provides ample prospective opportunities in government and private sectors
- Offers respectable as well as responsible positions
- Handsome salary
- opportunity of self employment
- Suitable to several fields that offers job guarantee
- Offers number of specializations to excel in a particular interested field
- Great scope of higher positions
The eligibility criterion to a Bachelor degree in engineering is passing in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The admission process includes entrance test. Few colleges like IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) take admissions through Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). The percentage in 10+2 is also considered by few of the colleges during the admission.
Polytechnic or Diploma in Technology which is taken after passing class 10 is also the eligibility to pursue the Bachelor Degree.
Hence, one can start planning for the career after class 10 or class 12. Yet, there is even opportunity to the students to jump into technology programs at Master’s degree level. The students holding Master’s degree in Science or Mathematics or Statistics or Computers are also eligible for the Master program in technology. GATE is the examination conducted for the admission in Master of Technology in IITs.
The area of the opportunities is found in good number for the engineering students. The job role usually depends on the branch of the degree.
Machinery production companies like automobile and auto part production, Defense Industry, Shipping industry, Rail Industry, Aviation related companies and Technology Centers are the major recruiters
The Government bodies like Indian Navy, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL), National Aeronautical Lab (NAL), Civil Aviation Department, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Defence Research and Development Laboratories (DRDL), BHEL, HIL, BCPL, CBEC, ILBS, CRWC etc recruit the personnel of the field.
Management roles in these industries are offered to or prefer those who possess management related degree like MBA besides engineering.
Teaching is also a best choice. Score in CSIR National Eligibility Test (NET) is a compulsion to settle as a Lecturer or Professor in colleges and Universities. The researcher in the field also opt the exam for the fellowship.
Self employment is always a good option for hard workers. Small scale industries, retail shops and contractual works are the major choices of many. The affordable can go for big factories.
