Education in Chandigarh – An Introduction
Chandigarh virtually means “The fort of Chandi” named after the Hindu deity “Chandi”
located in the adjoining city of Panchkula. Chandigarh the capital of Punjab and
Haryana states is a union territory and came into existence on 1st November, 1966.
It is planned by the famous architect Le Corbusier. The population of Chandigarh

Schools following Hindi as the medium of instruction. All performance indicators

Chandigarh does not have its own School Board of Education, so they are affiliated

department of Chandigarh administration supervises the functioning of four government
colleges in Chandigarh. All the colleges are affiliated to the Punjab University.

have courses in contemporary courses like business administration and computer science.
Some of the colleges also offer Post Graduate courses in Information Technology,
Commerce, Public Administration, English, Economics, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music
