Food Technology deals with everything about food like nutritious values in food, selection process, preservation, processing, etc. Every food product related company needs a food technician to surveillance the process to make the food hygiene and healthy. In contemporary days, the importance of food technician is rather increased due to the increase of ‘ready to eat food’ or packaged food ingredients that make the cooking easier.

Bachelor of Applied Science in Food Technology is the undergraduate program that provides the knowledge of all steps of food processing and other food related techniques with scientific processes. The course is a career oriented course. In agricultural oriented country like India, the course is rather useful and it is required to encourage large number of students opting for it.

B.A.S Food Technology Course Details

The course is a three years course that is offered in regular mode. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Biostatistics, instrumentation, Biophysics, Electronics, nuclear and biomedical instruments, microprocessor, microcomputers, lab technology and maintenance, quality control, microbiology, genetics, etc are the main subjects of the course. The course includes practical papers and summer training. There would be a project in the final year.

B.A.S Food Technology Eligibility

Students who have completed 10 +2 with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects with minimum 60% of aggregate score from a recognized board or those who have completed the equivalent course are eligible to apply for the course. The eligibility procedure is different from institute to institute. Few institutes take admissions as per the score in the conducted entrance test.

As it is mentioned earlier every food processing plant or factory needs a food technician. Hotels and restaurants, dairies, etc are the other sources of employment. The higher education in the stream would allow the aspirants to be scientists and researcher in the field.
