The B.A. B.Ed. Courses are an integrated program in acquiring the double Bachelor’s degree which are the BA Degree and the B.Ed. Degree. The degree enables the student to complete the B.Ed. education along with the BA Degree Courses. The courses are conducted by many colleges both belonging to the Government as well as private universities, but it is the Regional Institute of Education that has really given the boost to the B.A. B.Ed. Courses. Started under the aegis of the National Council of Educational Research and Training in the year 1963 by the Government of India, the Institutes are located in five different states throughout the country. The five different units cater to almost all the parts of the country near it and is responsible for a large number of teachers graduating from the Institutes.

The B.A. B.Ed. Courses are conducted in the Humanities stream, but there is the B.Sc. B.Ed in which Science teachers are trained and also graduate from these Regional Institute of Education.

Details of the B.A. B.Ed. Courses

  • Duration: The B.A. B.Ed. Courses are of 4 years duration or of 8 Semesters, depending on the structure that the university or the intuitions follow.
  • The Medium of Instruction: English.
  • Evaluation Procedures: The B.A. B.Ed. Courses usually have two types of evaluation programs, of which one so the internal assessment conducted throughout the course and the other is the external examination which is conducted at the end of every year.
  • Eligibility: The student seeking admission to the B.A. B.Ed. Courses must have passed the Higher Secondary or the 10+2 examination or an equivalent examination with at least 50% aggregate marks in Humanities, Science or Commerce disciplines.
  • Age: The candidate seeking admission to the B.A. B.Ed. Courses must have completed 17 years of age.
  • Admission Procedure: Students seeking admission to the B.A. B.Ed. Courses at the Regional Institute of Education must pass the Common Entrance Examination conducted by the Institute at the All India Level. The testing in the Common Entrance Admission test is conducted on three areas which are the language profanely, Aptitude for teaching and Reasoning Ability.

The B.A. B.Ed. Courses are also open to student who have completed the diploma in Education course and they can straight away enter the Second year of the four year B.A. B.Ed. Courses.

Other Universities both State and Private conduct B.A. B.Ed. Courses and these are of 4 years duration too. However, there are no admission tests to these institutions.
